You know, because I'm a serious blogger that keeps their word and is professional and stuff.
So I shall keep my word, act sophisticated as I sit on my couch in a sweatshirt and leggings, and blog about random things only I care about.
1.
First off, as I mentioned yesterday that I'd blog about either something philisophical or at least post some pictures of my dog in a hat. You're in luck. I'm up for both.
Some things to make you think:
And, again as promised, some crappy cell phone pictures of my dog sporting things on his head.
Like:

| I couldn't take just one photo of him in the scrumcap. Too good. |
And yes I've come to terms with the fact that I will eventually be this woman. That's fine.

I had the weirdest/scariest dream the other day. It involved my driving with some college kids that I work with at custard, and searching for "something really important" in the woods. I then came across "The Sarge" (my dad ) in a cowboy hat who was pulling some person out of a completely black SUV with tinted windows saying, "This is your stalker. He was about to kill you at gun point. He's a sniper." And then another police officer came up to me and was like, "This is very serious". And they both kept on saying that to me until I woke up.
UM WHAT?
Needless to say, when I did wake up I proceeded to turn on all of the lights as I went to the bathroom. When I got back to bed I subsequently had an irrational fear of some person with a shotgun and silencer jumping out of the closet and killing me. Because they were my stalker.
Since Dave wasn't home (but my sister was, so take that stalkers with black SUVs you can't catch me telling you when I'm home alone) Bruin and I cuddled for the rest of the night.
I would just like to throw out there that I do not work for the government, am unfortunately not famous (YET) and have never had a stalker. Or seen a gun like that in real life. Or searched through the woods for "something important". Though I have searched the woods for a place to pee.
So if someone would like to interpret that dream for me that would be great. Thanks.

I am trying to tidy and dress up my blog a little.
I've made some tabs up top to direct people to my about me page, I've created an email that does not compromise my full identity for people to reach me at and put it on my profile, and I'm going to be making some other tabbed pages.
I am considering making a separate page for blogs I enjoy reading. Now, I already have a list started on the left side of my page. I put these up when I first started in April.
Some blogs I posted because I felt obligated, some I put because they blog on a different format and I couldn't follow them in my reader (or at least didn't know how) and it's a place for me to find the link, and others I do want to share with others.
So the question is, do I get rid of the list I have and make a new one on a separate page so that my home page looks a little neater? Will people be offended if they were on the list and then suddenly aren't anymore on my new one? Should I feature the blogs with buttons and the blogs without buttons on the same page? What is the norm?
Gosh, all of this blog etiquette stresses me out. If someone comments on my blog, do I comment on my blog too? Or on their blog? Or do I send an email? And what if I'm just not feeling a blog? Will someone come after me and hunt me downn at gunpoint if I "Unfollow" their blog because I've found they aren't my cup of tea?
It all makes me nervous. I don't want to do the wrong thing and offend other bloggies but I also want to enjoy my blog and reader the way I want it. I didn't start this blog to be subjected to posts I don't like and promote people who I don't actually read, I started it for me.
So any advice on how I should feature the blogs that I actually love on here (sidebar versus their own special page on tab up top) would be more than welcome.
And I'd love to hear opinions on what you all think about blog etiquette, who makes the rules, and which ones you must follow versus the ones that could be thrown out the window.

Ooooh such a cute puppy!
ReplyDeleteI love the dogie pictures!
ReplyDeleteMy opinion in the blog etiquette is to just do what works best for you.
For me, I comment reply via email, because rarely does someone return to one of my posts to check their comment for a reply. That gets confusing fast.
Also, I don't feel like you should have to follow someone because they follow you. It is possible for someone to like your blog, and you not care for theirs. That's totally cool in my book! :)
I'm always weeding through the subscriptions in my Google Reader and trying to eliminate blogs I don't really like or read often. For myself, I'd be sad to lose a follower, but I know that that's just how the blogosphere works, and I'd rather keep readers who will read regularly and enjoy what I write.
ReplyDeleteI try to check out the blogs of people who comment on my blog, but if nothing strikes my fancy I don't feel obligated to subscribe. I might leave a comment thanking them for visiting my blog, but generally I try to keep replies to comments within the thread on my blog.
I definitely think you should only promote blogs that you really like and want to be associated with. Like you said, it's your blog! And having a separate page is a good idea--I'm not a fan of crowded homepages.
I look forward to seeing the changes as you work on your layout!
