First, I would like to apologize for the title of today's post. While the rest of the world has/is trying to forget about Rebecca Black and her 15 minutes of fame, I work in a middle school. All of my homework assignments due at the end of the week look so much better on the homework board when followed by "Fun, fun, fun, fun. Partying, Partying (Yeah)". So for now, Rebecca Black, in room 109 I will not stop.
As far as life in general, things are exciting, coming together, and just getting going all at the same time. Which is kind of cool.
First off, some of you may remember my posting about school budget stuff. Well the vote hasn't gone through yet but it looks like it probably will. It leaves our school in an interesting spot as we restructure teams and change teachers around. All of the staff is all abuzz because they're
Speaking of school, I'm teaching my favorite units of the year. My holocaust literature circles with my eighth graders and persuasion with 7th. These units seem to engage them the most which I ABSOLUTELY ADORE. It's nice to finish off the year with all students still going all engines full speed because they're actually enjoying their learning.
As the school year comes to a close, summer jobs begin. Growing up I always worked two jobs during the summer: Summer Camp, and something in food service. At one time on a grill at a general store, and then at a coastal ice cream store. When I moved for my teaching job, I had to find a new summer position as well. I decided to take it easy and only take one job on. I called local ice cream places and the first one I called snatched me right up. What I didn't realize was it was actually a custard place.
Time for some confessions:
1. I had never heard of custard, or this place.
2. At first I could not get a grasp on why people get SO CRAZY about this custard.
3. Now I do.
It's the most delicious thing on earth. And dangerous thing on earth
I gained 5 pounds last summer.
They weren't "worth" it, because extra weight never is.
But they almost were.
So I start up with this job again (second summer) so I can get into things before school ends. Needless to say I'm pretty excited. The staff is super cool and fun to work with, the owner insists that we all call her Gram, (which we do) AND DID I MENTION THAT THIS STUFF IS THE MOST DELICIOUS THING ON EARTH?
Finally, my little sister moved her stuff in yesterday. That's right folks, Dave let it happen. My little sister got a job in the area so we told her she was more than welcome to move in with us.
This girl is willing to watch The Office on marathon, loves to relive childhood jokes, and laughs/doesn't judge us when we do that weird voice for our dog because that's what normal people do right?
This summer is going to be ridiculous.
We have a few theories on what Paxton is (since he's a rescue) but honestly have no clue. People ask us all the time since he has such pretty eyes :) We're pretty sure he's part German Shepherd but coming up with the other part is tricky since he was a stray before the animal shelter picked him up and his growth was stunted due to malnutrition. Some of our guesses even included Great Dane because he his so lanky and awkward!
